This crate is specifically designed to solve the "no references to MMIO address space" problem, by using structs to hold *mut MyPeripheral pointers, and function-like macros (like field!) to do the conversion from pointer-to-peripheral into pointer-to-peripheral-register without intermediate references. Unlike tock-registers, it doesn't handle bitfields - only register level access. The crates I've seen using safe-mmio typically combine it with the bitflags to provide support for individual bitfields, so that's what I've done here.
